Face Masks in Surgery

In line with national guidance, we have updated our approach to the wearing of face masks in the Surgery following an internal risk assessment undertaken by our Infection Control Lead.

Staff will no longer universally wear masks but will instead wear masks in the following situations

  • When seeing a patient with an acute, respiratory infection or suspected infection (not a chronic condition such as asthma).
  • When seeing an immunosuppressed patient.
  • Wish to do so through personal choice.

It is also suggested that for home visits that staff may wish to wear a mask or will do so it asked by the patient. When attending a care home, the staff will follow care home guidance. Wish to do so through personal choice.

For patients you are free to decide if you wish to wear a mask or not. You will not be asked to wear a mask on arrival but there will be free masks available for patients to use if they would like to wear one.

This guidance will be kept under review and may change at short notice based on increases in community infection rates of Covid.
